Energy Bites

THESE ARE A STAPLE IN OUR HOUSE! Before Clay goes on his morning run he needs something to eat that isn't really dense and that won't weigh him down. Energy bites are a great grab'n go snack in between activities during a busy a day, post race recovery snack, and they fulfill the nutrient needs of runner boy. I usually make a batch of 12 energy bites every week. They are a great filler for the daily munchies, can be made in less than 30 minutes, store easily in the fridge, and they can be packed with nutritious foods without all of the added processed/added sugars that a lot of pre packaged snacks contain.
When you search these on Pinterest you can find a lot of different recipes and types of energy bites. We have tried some of the different flavors such as carrot cake, or pumpkin, etc. It seems like it is trendy nowadays in the food blogging community to change the OG recipe and get funky. Some of them have been okay but in general we just like the classics. This is our original go-to recipe that we make every week.

Ingredients
*1/3 cup almond butter
*1/2 cup of raisins, dried fruit or chocolate chips
*1 cup old fashioned oats
*1/2 cup flax seeds
*1 tbsp chia seeds
*2 tbsp agave
*1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions
1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Stir to combine.
2. Place in refrigerator for 15 minutes so they are easier to roll.
3. Roll into 12 bites.
4. Put on a cookie sheet and place in freezer for 15 minutes.
5. Store in air-tight container in the fridge for up to a week.
